PS2 system won't read any discs anymore. Would boot to normal OS though, system is modded but don't think that's an issue. I suspect the laser is dead but don't have the experience to give a definate answer. Can anyone confirm?

I'm not sure, I'm helping a friend with their PS2 and that was basically all I was given, I'll find out more about it. But I'm thinking your leaning towards a dirty laser? My friend already tried cleaning it with some O2

close but the laser may be off track or dislodged . there is a white dot near the laser that adjusts it try that.

So the system will have to be opened up? How easy is it to adjust?

yes and as far as i know its easy just use a pointed object and move it around this is a common problem for the v4 ps2 lasre they were very weak .

be careful opening it the eject reset cable is taped to the top of the disc drive and is hard to put back in.

I found some pics of the lens cleaning, is that what you mean to push around? Or would it be easier to boost the voltage to the laser? I found some procedures for this as well. Do you know if there are any pictures of the area your referring to? It might help me understand what has to be done

i bet its just the lazer, 99.9% of the dre's that i deal with are the lasers

Are you talking about the white circle in the middle of the tray?

My friend says they are getting a disc read error.

take off the disc tray cover and eject the tray there should be a little white gear/wheel visable.

I read it but I'm not exactly clear on what it will accomplish adjusting that white wheel/gear. Does it adjust laser height? adjust laser signal strength?

it ajusts laser height with playing dvd movies on a ps2 the laser has to move around alot more to refocus and somtimes it gets stuck and wont read discs anymore.

I just found out that ever since my friend had their chip installed, they haven't been able to playback any movies or play any PS1 games on the system. Could that also be fixed with adjusting the laser height?
