Hey, just wondering which mod cartridge I should get. I heard a friend of mine's overloaded and therefore broke due to one he was using on his DS. Anybody ever heard of this? Any that don't ruin system in the long run?

No, I've never heard of that, perhaps your friend bricked his DS with a bad installation of Flashme?
Anyway, for DS games get either the M3 Simply or the R4DS, they are almost exactly the same and you can patch either firmware for each card.
For GBA, go with the M3 Lite Perfect. (Make sure it isn't Pro!)
You will also need a MicroSD card and a reader for your computer, get both at Newegg.
