I just tried to replace my old 512mb ram (2 256 sticks) with 2 corsair 1 gig sticks, after installing I plugged everything back in and booted but when I did the monitor didnt come on, I thought it might be the video card but after swapping back and forth between the card and the onboard video i got nothing, so after reading up on it im pretty sure the ram caused the problem but putting the old ones back hasnt solved the problem.

    any feedback is appreciated.

does your mobo support 1gb sticks?

try reseting your bios with the old ram in to see if it works again, then try it (resetting the bios) again with the new ram.

    edit

you might need to use the old sticks of ram to manualy set the ram voltage and timings in your bios then turn it off, add the new ram and turn it on again.
