Can i put a v7 motherboard into a v4 ps2? If so, what else do i need to change (i.e.: laser, the case that holds the laser in place, etc.) any help would be greatly appreciated...
    Thanks

I can't think of anything that would prevent you from putting the motherboard in a v4 unit, however, you would likely have to change the DVD drive with a v5/6/7 compatible one as well as possibly use the v7's ground plates that cover the motherboard.

You would need a a v7 PSU too.
So when you get the v7 PSU, M/B, Laser, and DVD drive you'll have a v7 PS2. Which is a bit silly. Also i dont think the case is teh same shape and some of the mounting holes are in different areas.

If possible i woud just sell the crappy early one [if i still works] on eBay and buy a new v7 for about the same price.

Also i would like to know about swapping lasers....

    Cheers

If the lasers are interchangable you would still need to calibrate the laser to the board.

No, you can't do it, or I believe I was unable to do so between a 4/5 I think. The controller port sits differently, the shielding, the case, try and let us know.
