Hi guys, have read recent threads already.. need more info

I want to buy a dual-layer writer for dvd backup. It seems like I will only be able to burn compressed dvd5 for the moment, since media is too expensive and burners are unreliable - is this true?

Also, I am choosing between these:

    Liteon 1653S 16X Dual
    NEC ND-3500A 16X Dual Layer
    Pioneer 108 DuLayer
    Pioneer A08 DuLayer

It seems like most of you have the Pioneer 108 and report that it's great for single layer but unreliable for dual? What are your thoughts? Which of these will be the best for DVD MOVIE BACKUPS?

Much appreciation for the info everyone.

    David

EDIT: I'm looking most at the NEC3500A and the Pioneer 108.. The only difference I have found specwise is that the 108 doesn't do bitsetting..

If I have a new, quality dvd player that plays all my dvd5 burned dvds from my liteon4x, then I don't need bitsetting, right?

    thanks
