I have RecordNow 6.0, and everytime I try and put in a DVD-R, it will not read it. To be exact, if I go into My Computer, THE DVD drive is gone. Can anyone help with this problem.....

Or at least tell me what I am doing wrong.

PS. I have the brand of DVD-R called "Imation"

What make and model is your burner? And have you tried re-installing your drive?

Check your wires (the IDE cable if the drive is internal OR the USB if it's external). It could be as simple as the connection if it has become loose OR the cable may have gone bad somewho and may need replacement. If you have acess to another PC try your drive there, if not, check the wire / cable as I've just suggested.

If the cable / wires are fine then you may need to have the drive replaced. If less than a year old it may be under warrante.

The above suggestions are under the assumption that you've already rebooted your PC and the PC has been unable to locate / find / install your DVD burner.

The order of checking (and of cost-to-repair) would be -
    1. Check for loose connections
    2. Replacement of wire and/or cable
    3. Exchange or replacement of drive

    Good luck,

    Pete

Ok, I just checked everything you told me too. Then I got hold of my last DVD+R and It burned. So this leads me to conclude that DVD-R does not work on my driver. Is there a way to fix that?

There isnt a way to fix it unless?? The manufacurer of the drive has a firmware that will allow it to burn -R's.
I will ask what Flip already asked again. What is the make and model of your DVD writer?

Hmmm, I ran HP 300 at www.videohelp.com and it only came up with HP 300e and HP 300i and both are +R(RW) only drives.

So it seems your writer is just a +R format burner.

I just did some searches as well, I guess my writer is only for +R, so I guess I get to make a stop at Best Buy later this week.

Thanks for the help guys. :)

This drive is actually manufactured by Phillips for HP, but HP has discontinued selling this drive (because of all the problems) It only supports the +R format. If you search for that deive on this forum alone you find all kinds of people having problems with this drive. Just thought you might want to know :)
