My Dvd Burner will only read dvds

    Just as the title says..My hp 740i wont read cds anymore. I flashed it to the 840 version to see if that fixes the problem with no luck. Any ideas out there?

    Since the drive has different lasers for CD and DVD, quite possibly the laser head is damaged, (the CD laser has burned out). Replacement will be cheaper than repair. If the drive is still under warranty, contact your dealer for advice.

    Buy yourself a new burner. Flashing the drive with the wrong firmware was not a good idea.
