I have a compaq presario 2100 note book with a external benq 16x dl burner running off usb 2.0 through a pcmcia card and i can only get speeds of about 0.48x it takes my about 2 hours to burn a dvd
i tried two diferent cards uninstalled and reinstalled all my drivers used 2 diferent usb 2.0 cables 4 diferent types of media i bought the benq because my old burner was doing the same thing and i thought it was a hardware issue but i guess it was not
any help on my little mystery will be great
    thanks

You have done a good job trouble shooting the issue. You pretty much covered all of the bases.

What software programs are you using? What drive does the notebook have built-in? Who is the maker of the motherboard? Is the BIOS up-to-date?

To get alot of information about your system, use this free program:

i used the burner on another computer and it worked fine but the other computer did not have a pcmcia slot in it i tried two brand new cards and they both did the same thing so i dont think it is a card issue

You need to read it completely. Not just the first page. Please take the time. Thanks.

Craig from Ahead Software USA, makers of Nero stated many facts also in that thread.

the burner has a power cable and a usb cable the pcmcia card had no cable at all just the card with instructions the instructions say nothing about a power cable at all just tells me to incert into slot and window xp will automaticly install drivers and they did device manager is reading enhanced pci to usb controller then under that it says usb root hub not 2.0 though the card came with a driver disk labled usb 2.0 drivers for windows 98/nt i installed them anyways but they made no diference so i uninstalled them an reinstalled the other drivers i think i pulled all the the hair out of my head i refuse to give up untill i solve this problem
