    I searched around but I still need help, problem is, no matter WHAT game it is that I backup, it wont work on my ps2. Rarely, it will say it's not a ps2 disc, sometimes it will just go to a black screen and never load.. sometimes it will load but the game will be unplayable due to constant skipping..

    Anyway, normal games work. I have concluded that it's probably because I am burning the discs too fast, but I can't get my DVD burner to burn 1 or 2x speed, 4x seems to be the minimum. If anyone knows how to work around this that'd be awesome.

    Of course, if anyone else knows if there might be another problem besides burn speed, you can bring that up as well.

    What type of mod do you have?
    Swap magic?
    installed chip?

    You will need a modchip or boot disks to play backups.
    Also cheap media does not work well with the ps2.

    I use verbatim (mcc) and/or fujifilm(yuden) 4x.

    Better quality media should allow you to burn slower, (you should burn AT 2X SPEED.
    Also make sure your running the latest firmware for your burner

    i depend on the max speed of the disks.
    Verbatim 4x. have 4 recommended speeds.
    1x,2x,2.4x,4x.
    Verbatim 8x also have 4 recommended speeds
    but they are different.
    1x 2x 4x 8x.

    Different media works with each burner different.
    With updated firmware and 4x MAX MEDIA.
    You should be able to burn at 2x.

    Thanks for the replies guys.

    First, I have swap magic 3 I believe it is..

    Now just a few questions

    How do I update the firmware?

    Also, I have verbatim DVD-R 8x and I only see 4x and 8x inside my burning optuons, even though you said it should recommend 1x 2x 4x and 8x.. Do I need DVD+R?

    .. or will the verbatim 4x DVD-Rs work fine? I guess I'll pick sone up next time I go out to the store and find out.

    Get a free program called Dvd Identifier.
    Run dvd identifier on your disks.
    it will show the manufacturer and recommended settings.
    You need to go to the website of your burner manufacturer.
    And make sure your burner software (Firmware)
    Is the newset version avaiable.

    this is nick on his brothers computer, okay, the firmware is updated to the newest version and it says my burner supports the low speeds. I just dont see them on Nero, so do you think I might see them on another DVD burning program? I have verbatim and don't see them, any other recommended media?

    I use to have this problem too. So i went with the reconmended "ritek" media that eveyone praises so much and no luck. I then took the riteks to my friends dvd burner and it worked. my guess is that it depends on what kind of media your burner likes. My pioneer does not like the media with the dark purple dye. It likes light blue dye. I started using memorex 4x media and every game i now burn works perfect. Also the reasone you cannnot burn at 1x is because your using 8x media. If you buy 4x media then you can go all the way down to 1x. Try some memorex media 4x is kinda hard to find right now. but i have seen some at Compusa. hope this helps.

    I dont reccomend ritek.
    (unless its G04) which can be hard to find.
    And memorex uses (cmc).
    And if you get those they are garbage.

    But like i said find media your burner mfg reccomends.

    the site isnt down.

    ill post from the site

    http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm

    The following list is in preference order. The best discs are near the top of the list. The discs at
    the bottom of the list are suitable only for a landfill.

    Almost flawless burns with 95-100% reliable results:
    PVC = Pioneer = (-R)(-RW)
    MXLRG01, MXLRG02 = Maxell = (-R) ... be aware of unbranded fakes
    MCC = Mitsubishi Chemicals = (-R)<-----------------VERBATIM MY CHOICE #1
    TDKG02 = TDK Corp = (-R) ... be aware of unbranded fakes
    TAIYOYUDEN or YUDEN = Taiyo Yuden = (-R)<--------------FUJIFILM (made in japan) MY CHOICE #2

    Decent discs, though not perfect, about 85-95%
    success rate:

    RICOHJPN = Ritek or Ricoh = (+R)
    SONYD04 = Sony = (-R) ... be aware of unbranded fakes
    PRODISC = Prodisc Media = (+RW)
    INFODISC = Infodisc Media = (+RW)
    RITEKG04 = Ritek = (-R)
    RITEKG03 = Ritek = (-R)
    OPTODISC = Optodisc = (-R)

    Quality can be very questionable, about 50-80% success rate:

    LEADDATA or LD01 or LD or LEDA = Lead Data = (-R)(-RW)
    PRINCO = Princo = (-R)(-RW)
    RITEK = Ritek = (-RW)
    ONIDTECH = OnidTech = (-R)

    Pathetic garbage media, landfill material, about 0-50% success rate:

    RITEKG01, RITEKG02 = Ritek = (-R)
    PIODATA = Lead Data = (-R) ... often sold as "Pioneer OEM" but that's false
    Unbranded PIO = Fake Pioneer = (-R) ... often sold as "Pioneer OEM" but that's false
    Unbranded SONY = Fake Sony = (-R)
    Unbranded MXL = Fake MXL = (-R)
    ACCU = Unknown OEM = (-R)
    LONGTEN = Unknown OEM = (-R)
    AN31, AN32, ANWELL, AN30 = Unknown OEM = (-R)
    OPTODISC = Optodisc = (+R)(+RW)
    MATRIX = Unknown OEM = (-R)
    CMC = CMC Magnetics = (+R)(-R)

    I've used ONLY verbatim 4x dvd-r Digital Movie Discs and have had zero problems with game and Movie backups. I back up movies at 12x(using nero) and games at 2x with DVD Decrypter. Best thing is you can get a 25pk spindle for 20.00.

    Alright thanks guys, I can only find 4x on bestbuy.. so I guess I'll have to go there and pick some up.. but I see a

    50 pack 4x DVD-R Disc Spindle - $49.99
    and a
    25 pack 4x DigitalMovie DVD-R Disc Spindle - $22.99

    Does the DigitalMovie thing make a difference? Because I think a 25 pack would be enough..
