OK my best advice to you is to buy a kreon flashed DVD-Rom drive for your PC and save yourself all of these headaches.

If you get the drive you'll need xboxcreator software if it does'nt come with the drive (current version of XBC is 2.7 as far as i know),both the kreon flashed samsung drive i bought & the software seem to rip the games ok,havent got around to burning the games as yet tho i'd assume all will be ok.

Yes, with that drive and either Xbox Backup Creator or Schtrom (both free programs) you will have no problems at all making back ups.

    It is this simple:
    1. Stick original disc in your Samsung PC drive and let it spin for a second and be recognized
    2. open Xbox Backup Creator 2.6 (or newest version)
    3. go to tools tab and click unlock drive
    4. go to read tab and start it (make sure it is set to read the full disc and not just the current partition)

once image is made you can burn it.

    1. open newest version of IMGburn
    2. go to mode and select “write”
    3. now browse for and select the .DVD file you just made
    4. Select your burning speed, and booktype the media to DVD-Rom if your burner can booktype
    5. hit start and burn it.

sh-d162d (IDE) and the sh-d163b (SATA)
Those are what you should look for depending on what type of hookup your PC has. And pretty much everyone i know bought them on Ebay.
