Is this a dvd-based game? If it is, use Dvd Decrypter to get the .iso file onto your hdd, then use Dvd Decrypter to burn it to disc. Make sure to burn at 1x or 2x max.

What media are you using as well? Depending on your ps2 version you may need dvd-r's for v1-3 and either - or +r's for v5+. Version 4's are a toss up for only -r's or both. Also, only use 4x max discs.

For ps2 backups, i would recommend 4x max discs over 8x max discs. Occasionally the 8x discs do not let you burn slow enough to get a good backup.

For my v12, i used to buy HP dvd+r 4x max discs and i loved them. But, I noticed some placed have stopped carrying the 4x max now. So, i'll be looking around for another brand to try out.
There are lists somewhere around here that list some pretty good media.
