i dont know which of the 2 to get. personally I hate mod chips but I know that this one will boot 99% of my games without question and no need for swapping or sliding or any of that. I've been using Swap Magic 2.0 for quite a while now, but lately it has stopped working. I don't mind using swap magic with slide card, Im used to it by now. However, I understand that SM 3.3 doesn't boot some games such as Fifa Street. BTW whats the deal with GT4, does it just not work with SM or even with mod chips. Any help would be greatly appreciated

    Thanks

I don;'t have the Matrix Infinity but i hear good things about it.
I do have a DMS4 Pro in my slim PS2 and it works great and has more features that the Matrix chip.
Once you get it and install the ToxicOS on it it will load all your back ups just like originals. I have not tried it with GT4 yet but my GTA San Andreas i play on it all the time and never have problems. If your happy swaping then just get a new disc, if you are real brave and can solder real good then buy a chip and install it.
or option number 3 shell out $315 and get a pre modded slim PS2 at http://www.xmodd.com
that is where i got mine and it works great, but be warned that they make them to order and it may take up to 3 weeks to get it.

thanks 4 the reply. The modding isnt the problem. I have a friend who knows how to mod chips very well and he offered to mod mine so thats all good. The thing is, dont mod chips burn out your laser real fast or somethin like that or is that just a story? As for the SM 3.3, I don't want to get it and then decide I want a chip afterwards, that'll be a total waste. BTW what is Toxic OS?

tooxic OS is like a firmware upgrade program that allows u to flash the firmware of the chip.

i would reccommend the Matrix cause it dosent burn out your laser. i have 5 friend that burned out their laser with the DMS4 lite and pro in less then 1 month. i have a matrix and it has benn working fine for 4 months now.

the matrix has a firware upgrade program too but u just need to burn a dc, put it in the ps2 and follow the instructions.

not exactly true. You should do the laser fix on the slim ps2 no matter what mod you have.

    good point sly

if u are using the slim then basically any mod can burn out your laser. and yes, all games work flawlessly with the infinity besides GT4 and i use ritek 4x media. probably the best game copying media out there.

here is a comparison chart i posted that compares the DMS4 Pro, matrix Infinity and Crystal chip.
    http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/170939
You will see that the DMS4 Pro has the most functions of all of them.
now some info on the Toxic Bios
ToxicOS is a third party flash upgrade for the DMS4 Pro modchip by Team Toxic.
While providing all the features of ToxicBIOS, it also provides a host of
innovative new features such as the ability to run games from the HDD.
Currently ToxicOS is in the early stages of development and many of the
planned features have yet to be implemented - however, we're sure you will love
what ToxicOS can do so far.. and dont forget, more features will be added with
    each new release :)

Current features provided by ToxicOS are as follows:

    - Run PS2 games directly from your HDD. This leads to decreased loading times
and makes gaming so much more convenient. Never again will you need to endure
    those painfully slow loading times!
    - Auto-detect and non-swap booting of all disc types (PS2, DVD, PSX, etc)
    - Compatible with all PS2 models V1-V12
    - Dev.olution mode (from memory card and HDD)
    - DVD region free, Macrovision removal and green screen fix for the DVD player
    - Auto-ATAD patching for HDD-enabled games
    - Fast boot mode for PS2, PSX and DVD movies
    - Support for the HDD browser upgrade on a non-Sony HDD
    - Set default boot mode to: Normal, MC/HDD Dev.olution, Fast Boot
    - Playstation 2 game video fix (Colour Carrier, PAL, NTSC, PAL60), with
    automatic y-position correction
    - Playstation 1 game video fix
    - Enable MegaMemory memory cards without the need for the boot disc
    - Configuration menu where various settings can be manipulated
    - "Toxic" logo displayed at the PS2 logo screen
    - When booting from Dev.olution mode or Fast Boot, games use correct language
    - Modchip disable mode, for online gaming
    - Support for the Codebreaker cheat device
    - 100% boot rate

Features planned for future releases include:

    - Integrated cheat device, allowing you to use cheats while playing games
from the HDD or CD/DVD without requiring a 3rd party cheating product.
    - 48-bit LBA support which will allow HDD's larger than 137GB to be fully
    utilised.
    - Support for installing DVD-9 games to the HDD.
    - The ability to launch PS2/PSX games and DVD movies directly from ToxicOS,
turning it into a complete browser replacement.
    - The ability to manipulate console settings such as screen size, date/time
    from inside of ToxicOS.
    - Support for installing homebrew applications to the HDD or memory card. This
will provide similar functionality to DMS Explorer/CC BootManager etc.
    - Some suprises which we know you'll love!
