First of all, I would like to thank you people for having such informative site. Such as, the FAT and NTFS filing system.

Background: i am using Nero 7 and burn with 4x and 2x. Using different brands of DVD-R. I am not sure what mod chip i am using cause it was included when i bought it. But i am sure it plays Wii and GC backup games. I bought those burn games from China and it works fine.

Problem 1: I tried burning Wii and GC backup games but none seems to work. I've tried burning Mario Kart and Mario Sunshine. Mario Kart works fine but when i click to play Mario Sunshine, i can only hear the sound of it and there's no pictures. Any idea? I tried different burning speed with Nero and different brands of DVD-R.

Problem 2: I burned Wii sports and put it in Wii. It loads and says Wii sports but when i click play then the screen blacks out. There aren't even sounds this time.

    Need more information.

You really should know what Modchip you have so you can update it if need be. Before you ask how to find out you will have to either open it up and check or get a hold of the place you bought the Wii from and ask them. I don't understand how people can buy something and not know what is in it.

What region Wii do you have?

What region are the Wii Play and what region is Mario Sunshine?

I have a Japanese Wii and my firmware is 2.0. The Mario Sunshine is a US version. I think my Wii is already region free because i can play US version of real GC game and JAP version of backup games.

All the chips give you region free, before you can be helped you need to open the wii and have a look. As for games there is a large list of games which do and do not work but again it can be dependent of which chip you have.

In fact, i bought a backup game for Mario Sunshine (English version) and it works but do you guys have any idea why when i try to burn it myself; it won't work.

I don't know about the GC games, but I just want to say update your Wii firmware to 2.2J asap! Especially since you're playing american games. With the newer games you can brick your Wii

I know about updating the firmware if i am going to play US game. The problem i have here is that i can't play US version of 'gamecube' game. So firmware shouldn't matter right? As mentioned, i burn Mario Sunshine (US version) and i can only get the music with NO image. On the other hand, i bought Mario Sunshine backup game and it works. I just want to know what you guys think of this situation. In addition, i tried to burn a Wii Sport and my Wii can detect it but when i click play, the screen just black out. Any idea why i am having these problems? I've tried using 3 different DVD brands and several burning rates.

Id have to say it had to be either your media, you burned too fast, or from what I hear even too slow, as I hear some people have better luck with faster speeds, or a bad rip.

    I am using DVD-R with 16x.
I read that i need to burn it in half rate of 16x (ie 8x). I tried burning it with 8x and 4x but the same situation happens.

It has to be a region comparability issue.

You said yourself when playing Mario Sunshine you can hear the sound but there is no video. If you can hear the sound then the game is playing and your Wii is reading the disc. The problem that you are having is with the Video Mode. Try forcing the game into PAL50hz/PAL60hz/NTSC Do not choose Automatic.

Is this the PAL version of Wii Sports? If so it is not compatible playing on a NTSC(J) system.

Playing A Japan Verison of a Game Disc would not tell you if you had Region override ON. You said above you had a NTSC(J) Wii. This means having the Region Override ON/OFF will not effect anything when playing Japan Game Disc.

Does the Region override settings on the Wiikey have anything to do with Game Cube Games? I thought GCoS launched when playing a Game Cube backup disc with a Wiikey. If this is the case then GCoS handles the Region part of the Game Disc.

In any case I would suggest downloading the Wiikey setup disc and make sure that your Wiikey has its Region override set to ON. Burn the setup disc from the link below and turn Region override to ON and save the settings. (Due to the stealth part of the Wiikey when placing the setup disc back in the settings will be default and will say the Region override is set to OFF. If you have changed it to ON and saved the settings then it should be set to ON even tho the default settings say it is off.)

How do i force it into PAL50hz/PAL60hz/NTSC?

Yes, it's a PAL version. Sorry for not checking this.

My game disc is a NTSC version of GC game. So i suppose the Region Override should be ON.

Don't understand what you are trying to say here. What's GCOS?

    Thanks for the information.

Are you sure it is a NTSC version of Mario Sunshine?

I don't understand why you would have video problems if it is an NTSC version of it.

By any means if you are hearing sound when starting Mario Sunshine then the media should not be the issue. It is a video mode problem.

You usually see this issue when it is a PAL Game Disc playing on an NTSC System.

I do not have a Wiikey but I know you can somehow boot into GCoS (GCoS is a hacked version of the Game Cube operating System) and then force the Game Disc into PAL mode by pressing X for 50hz or L for 60hz on the Game Cube controller.

Maybe someone else with a Wiikey can tell you how to boot into GCoS.

Now for the Wii Sports. You can find a Region Compatibility list at the site below. Since you have a NTSC(J) Wii you will look under the sections pf PAL to NTSC(J) or NTSC(U) to NTSC(J) and find the games in that section. it will tell you if they are region compatible with your NTSC(J) or not region compatible.

Your Sunshine game, the one that gives sound put no picture?

Hold the GC 'B' button while its starting, this will let you play the PAL title on your NTSC wii. This works only for GC games, not wii titles.
