I just put a Lite-On LH-20A1H-185 in my computer. This is the first DVD burner I've owned so please bear with me. When I bring up My Computer it sees it as a DVD-RAM Drive. I copied a DVD to my hardrive with it with no problems. When I put a blank DVD in to copy it, My Computer sees the drive as a CD-ROM. The media I'm using is Maxwell DVD+R. I tried using Shrink and Nero 7 but both programs say there is no DVD in the drive and that there is a CD in instead. And Yes, it is a blank DVD I put in the drive, not a CD. I tried to update the firmware thinking that may be the problem, but that wasn't it. I'm hoping it's just simple like the media just is the wrong type or there is a setting in my computer that needs adjusted. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Its nothing to worry about I dont know why it does that, it drove me crazy , it has nothing to do with how your drive works as long as you can burn cd and dvd's just forget about it. it list itself as cd drive and dvd drive at different times

With DVD+RW you have to format first, so that's most likely why it's not being seen. Nero will be able to format it.

The problem is I can't burn a movie because I get an error saying there is no DVD in the drive. The Drive will play movies and play CDs and I've burnt a music CD with it but it won't recognize a blank DVD. I'm going to try a different brand and see if that works. Thanks for your replies.

Nero does see my drive as a DVD burner, but everytime I try to burn the movie from my hard drive Nero freezes and I have to close out. It burned a 2GB game setup file I have to disc but I can't get the movie to burn without the freeze problem. It is the trial version of Nero so that may explain that problem.

You may want to try another burning program at some point. ImgBurn is excellent and free.

You have to make an ISO with Shrink and then burn that with ImgBurn.

(You could use the "build" mode and burn DVD-Video files but you don't have to.)

If you install the modified version of Shrink Autoburn with ImgBurn it's all automatic.

Using DVD Decrypter to get around encryptions. I'll try the DVD Shrink w/IMG burn later when I get home. Thanks

DVD Decrypter is old and not updated use Ripit4me with FixVTS with Shrink and DVD Decrypter or Anydvd with Shrink and DVD Decrypter or ImageBurn

Ripit4me would be an excellent choice. Ripit4me uses Decrypter to do the burn so this would get Nero out of the loop. You would then know if Nero is the reason your DVDs are not recognized. If Ripit4me (Decrypter) can't see the DVD either then the problem is not with the burning programs.

Nero may have made a burn log. Please check and see if it did. If one is there please post it. It would be here:
    C:\Program Files\Nero\Nero 7\Core\NeroHistory.log

If no log is there then run the Nero InfoTool that comes with Nero 7.
Run it and save the results as a .txt file. Post the entire thing here.

Well Success. I finally burned my first 2 movies. I used Ripit4me and Nero and both work perfectly. I think it may have been the media I was using. Oh well problem solved. Thank you for all the advice.
