BTW: I want to use this ps2 for playing backed up games and maby having a hdd for it someday....
Now we got that out of the way, my quetions are......

can all the versions of slim ps2's out on the market be moded via a modchip? Or are there some versions not compatable with a chip. I plan install the chip myself, Im pretty handy with a soldering iron <i have chiped an xbox and a psp by now>.

What would be the best modchip to purchase and who is a legitamate/good reseller for it.

Thanks for your patients and help :D.

'can all the versions of slim ps2's out on the market be moded via a modchip? Or are there some versions not compatable with a chip?'

Well, as far as i know, there are 15 ps2 versions and i think version 11-15 are slim ones. Currently most of the PS2 versions are moddable. You can check your modchip details to see if it is compatible with your PS2.

'What would be the best modchip to purchase and who is a legitamate/good reseller for it?'

Best modchip? that depends on what you want from the modchip. The main modchips currently in the market are:

Matrix Infinity - Very durable. i don't think you'll want this one...

DMS4 Pro SE - When flashed with ToxicOS, has integrated HDD support, 2 DEVoloution modes, built in cheat device, region forcing with Y fix, and much much more.

Crystal Chip 2.0 - Very good modchip with online game patching.

    So it really dependes.

    Reseller? um...

    TeamModders.com

They install and sell modchips, sell premodded consoles, and repair consoles. Just because your beggining with PS2 modding i suggest you should send it to an expert. Like Dave from their team. Also...

    mod-chip.com

They are a good modchip seller.

    OR

You can always go the Swap Magic way, which is also good.

Well, you might as well check the capablities of them here:

    Matrix:

    http://www.mod-chip.com/en/matrix_infinity_green_dot_chip.php

    Crystal Chip 2.0:

    http://www.mod-chip.com/en/crystal_pro_chip.php

    DMS4 Pro SE:

    http://www.mod-chip.com/en/dms4_se_chip.php

As you can see, they are all pretty much the same. And there are many features i haven't told you about.
Except for the integrated HDD support for DMS4 Pro SE (I have no idea how durable it is) The auto patching for online games in Crystal Chip 2.0, and the durablility of matrix. You can play online games in DMS4 Pro SE, but you must manually patch them. (You can look in the Software Boot Board)

DMS4 Pro SE is not compatible with v14. In this case you might as well get the crystal chip 2.0...

Check my debate thread called TeamModders.

DMS4 Pro SE is compatible with a V14 console. Just go to Teammodders.com and you can see install pictures for a DMS4 Pro in a V14.

My advice is to read up on each chip and know what you want before you buy it. Then ask the site you are going to send your Console to for modding for some advice on which chip they would think would best suit what you want to do.
Like people who play online should get a Crystal Chip V2.o for example.
