Hey guys, hope someone's still listening here. Looks like the last reply to the illegal disc error discussion was some time last year.

Anyway, I've got me an NEC 1300A drive and I started getting these illegal disc errors when I began using a different brand of disc (Memorex DVD-Rs). My friend told me that it was probably but the discs, so I went and found some others, that are supposed to be more compatible (GQ-Great Quality discs)

Now, I've done a certain amount of research and flashed my drive with 1.0c firmware, but it doesn't seem to help. Here's the logfile in case anyone has some suggestions.

    1. Memorex Media quality. * or * GQ Media quality.

You take a chance when you buy from someone who buys the disc
and then puts thier name on the disc.
The best are Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim. I use Ritek RiData myself.

2.You might what to update Nero to 6.6.0.18
Uninstall, run the NeroClean tool and then install this first and this second.

    3. File 'Drivers\CDRALW2K.SYS': Ver=5.10
.. This is Roxio's driver. Nero doesn't play well with Roxio.
.. Uninstall Roxio and run the zap tool found here.

    4. File 'Drivers\PXHELP20.SYS': Ver=2.03.28a
.. This is from RecordNow. It may cause a problem.
    .. See this post.

    edit
I forgot the firmware. You have a Dell OEM?
Looks like there is a 1.0d version.
This is too slow for 16x media. Try 4x or 8x. Disc Manufacturer: SONY16 - D1 quality.
