Nero 6 adn Back up DVD's? can you?

    i am very new to this so handle with car. i want to back up my existing DVD movies i own so my 11 year old son doesn't destroy them. i have Nero 6 DVD rom and HP dvd r+ burner. I know i have to rip them and then compress them, then burn them like an ISO file? am i on the right tract or way off? any help or walkthoughs would help thanks.

    Download dvd decrypter and dvd shrink(both free) and check out a few guides.
