    Hello,

Just purchased a new DVD drive, it came with Essentials 7.

What are the differences between this version and the retail version?

Do I need the Plug in for Nero Showtime?

Already purcased it for an older version.

Can I use it in my curent version if needed?

Want to make sure Essentials 7 will record DL disks.

    Most appreciated,

    Mr. Panda

    Hi mrbear27
Nero Essentials would be a limited version of the full retail version.
You wouldn't have access to all the apps in Essential like you would in the retail version.

Not sure if you would need a plugin for Showtime with the essential version.

You will be able to burn dual layer with it - dual layer burning is pretty standard in most burning programs.

If you already have a paid version of Nero then the choice is yours on which one you want to use. Not specific just to the drive itself.

    Hello binkie 7,

    That sounds fine for me.

I just need the basics for Nero.

Really do not need the extras and such.

It has been brought to my attention that many programs will not work with DL disks including my older versions of Nero and my Roxio that I purchased not very long ago.

I have receintly purchased the standard Plug In for Nero Showtime on my older version of Nero.

It seems to be working now.

If it stops from working, I will try adding the Plug In I purchased.

    Most appreciated,

    Mr. Panda

Sounds like Essentials is the package for you.

Nero started supporting dual layer with a version in Nero 6 - not sure when Roxio did.
Nero 7 would be better for burning dual layer burning but my fav for dual layer is ImgBurn (free).

For dual layer burning make sure your drives firmware is up to date, burn at 4x and use Verbatim dual layer media.

    binkie7,

    Essentilas is fine!

My earlier version of Nero was Nero Suite.
    Would not burn DL's.

    Anyway,

I lost my guide to ImgBurn and I asked on another form how to find it.

It is exactly where you said it was.

Just in a little different format than when I last read it.

IB seems to be the best.

I do use only Verbatium disks but would like to try Ricoh.
There 16 X disks look extreamly intriguing but my new burner will not support them.

    Foregot to purchase a Plextor.

    Maybe next time.

    Thank you,

    Mr. Panda

    Hi again Mr. Panda
To find the serial # opne Nero SmartStart look to the bottom right and you'll see an icon w/ a flame in it. Click on that icon - it's product center. In the license area you'll find the serial #.

You can also add and/or delete a serial # here too.

    @dnelson
Yes you can burn -R discs with Essentials. The format of the disc shouldn't make a diff as long as the burner supports it. Probably almost all burners in the past few years support both formats.

What are you trying to burn?

You can post the last nero log and we can take a look. Just be sure to edit out the serial # - begins w/ 1A, 1C or 5C.
    You can find them here:
    program files>nero>nero 7>core>nerohistory

I asked you how to locate the serial code because Nero in Germany wanted to know the number so they could see if I needed any Plug in for Showtime.

Just want Essentilal 7 for burning DL disks and playing media via Showtime.

I will follow your instructions and locate my Serial Code and then email it to Nero germany.

    Thank you,

    Mr. Panda

    binkie 7,

    Excellent.

I found my serial number thanks to you!

I was asking about Essentials 7 being able to burn DL disks.

    Looks like it can.

Really just wanted a back up from IMGburn.

    Many thanks,

    Mr. Panda
