hey guys i was just wondering if one of you could help me with my problem. i just got nero 8 and downloaded a movie which is in avi format. I tried following this guide(http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/356114) to convert my avi file and burn it to a dvd but when i add the video file, it looks like it's going to work for a split second and then nero closes and starts up agaian... does anyone know whats going on? could my downloaded movie maybe be corrupted or something?

Don't know the exact answer to your question, could be that Nero is bugged, which is nothing unusual, or something conflicting, or a bad download.
While trying to figure it out, you might want to give this a try:

DVD Flick is free and it does a great job.

I am sorry mate, did you consider the trial version of Nero before buying?
Maybe you will find other uses for Nero and maybe they will fix all the bugs in one of the future releases.
Just as an FYI, almost everything can be done with free applications, conversion/editing/decrypting/trnascoding/burning...I have to think to think really hard to find something that cannot be done with free software...

Hmmm...Free as in "Freeware" is different from free as in "free trial", which sometimes is disguised under "free download" or something similar:~)!

I had the same problem trying to add AVI files at the beginning of the month. Nero closes and reopens each time. I checked to see if there was an update avalable and there was, so I updated and it fixed my problem.

Is there a way to keep DVD Flick from re-encoding MPG files to burn to DVD?

No, there isn't a way. If your files are already mpeg2 DVD compatible, you can choose fast encoding.
