    Nero has been working perfectly for a long time, but just recently the program will not even start properly.
    Nero opens but then instantly becomes "not responding" and I can't close the page, not even with task manager. And the PC will not shut down either.

    I've tried 4 versions, and made sure i done a full install and clean before each one, but still no luck.

    how can I find out what the problem is?

    Do you have the latest version of nero? There have been a lot of reports of Nero 'Hanging' while scanning the SCSI/IDE bus. This I believe is down to a process called RMADEC.EXE which is spawned by Nero on startup, and then freezes on some systems. To get around this problem on my system I have written a little batch file that launches nero and then kills the faulty process for me.

    Open notepad.exe and enter the following:

    @echo off
    cd c:\program files\ahead\nero
    start nero.exe
    @ping 127.0.0.2 -n 5 -w 1000 > nul
    taskkill /F /IM rmadec.exe

    Save on your desktop as nero.bat and double click to launch it.

    The @ping line causes the system to wait 5 seconds (enough time for RMADEC to start) before killing the faulty process. Currently set to 5 seconds, alter the -n variable if you think you may require longer (older machines may require longer)

    Hope this helps, let me know how you get on.

    Hi Sswats,

    If you use the process provided by Mr_Taz.UK, please let us know if it resolves your issue.

    Did you install any program or hardware before this issue began?

    Do you have the latest Nero 6.3.1.20 installed? If not, could you upgrade to see if this addresses your issue?

    Regards,

    Craig

    Mr_taz. I just have one thing to say to you!

    I LOVE YOU MAN!!!

    worked like a charm. :D

    Just to answer the previous questions, I tried numerous version right up to the latest one. and after each uninstall i used the clean tool and still didn't work.

    Mr Taz's batch file on the other hand has sorted the problem totally it seems.

    So Mr Taz, is there anything this batch file does to nero that I should know about, or will it run smoothly with full functinality?

    Hi sswats,

    No Problem, thats what these forums are for. Glad I could help. As far as I am aware RMADEC.EXE and SELFDEL.EXE should clean up after themselves, but dont. I have not seen any 'side effects' of this process. It should run 'smoothly with full functinality'

    :eek:)

    These findings will soon be passed on to Ahead Software developers. Hopefully they will find a fix quickly.

    I have added two lines to the batch process to remove selfdel.exe

    @ping 127.0.0.2 -n 5 -w 1000 > nul
    taskkill /F /IM selfdel.exe

    Happy Burnin !

    Taz
