Hi. I tried to burn a PS2 game to a Verbatim 8x DVD-R. I'm told that I need to write at 1x or 2x (which I couldn't grasp why btw) but somehow there's no 1x or 2x option in write speed dropdown list. I installed latest Alchohol 120 and it did the same. Am I doing something wrong?

    Hi there,

What kind of DVD writer do you have ?

I had a Philips DVD8631 (Dell OEM) and the slowest speed it supported on DVD-R was 4x.

Dell replaced it with an NEC-3450A and now I can burn at 2x.

I think some drives are built like this, 4x min !

Higher speed is the same thing.

My NEC is a 16x DVD Burner, but when I put in 4x certified media, it only shows me 2x and 4x.
It knows that burning faster probably won't work because those media are vertified 4x only.

Not 100% sure if it's Nero and/or the drive that selects the Max Speed.

As for minimum speed, I would assume it's the Drive (Firmware)...

I never tried 8x or 16x certified Media, but I assume I would speed be offered 2x and 4x as burning speed !

Thanks for the reply cougar_ii. I'm using a 16x LG writer.
