    Hi,
    I'm having problems durning DVD's with my Matshita DVD in my Sony Vaio laptop, it seems a bit hit and miss, I'm getting 50% coasters. I have updated my firmware but no luck. Here is my log file:

    First, edit your post and remove your Nero Serial Number. It's the number near the top that starts with 1a23....

    Your Nero is a bit out of date you may want to update it:

    http://nero.com/us/nero-up.php

    It looks like the burn process is well underway before the failiure occurs. That means that something is interfering with the process. I notice you have a fairly large memory in use number. Make sure you are not doing anything else while burning. Go into your task manager and disable any programs that are not being used but are running in the background.

    As soon as I started looking for info about your media I started finding various articles and discussions about fake Taiyo Yuden media, this(Disc Manufacturer ID: IS01, Media Type ID: 001) apparently being one of them. Try using some different media. I like real Tayio Yuden.

    Summary:
    Update Nero
    Free some memory resources
    Use better media

    Cheers,
    Frank

    i'm running into the same problem....funny thing is, i was using memorex media and never burned a single coaster...but these issues started immediately...the very first fresh disk out of the spool. what makes this more troubling, is i was successful using this tdk media on my home pc w/o issue.....so i'm begining to wonder if god forbid its my matshita burner....and yes i have a vaio laptop model pcg-v505ecp. purchased it less than 4 mnths ago..i'm curious as to whether there have been issues w/these matshita burners...i believe im pretty up to date on the nero patches and updated firmware etc...also asapi...but still am getting these burn failures...any assist would be greatly appreciated.....heres attached log...lemme know if i need to give more info and specifics.

    @d0z3r -

    - [bold]..Memorex/CMC - don't let them near your Burner.....[/bold] - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/195438

    - TDK use differing quality manufacturers so you have to be careful which discs you buy as not all TDK will be equal.

    - for some reason the discs aren't being properly recognised, all the drive can tell is that this is a -R disc. Buy decent media

    - yup, Buy decent media

    @fastFrank

    I did the updates suggested but no luck.

    Bought new media (Verbatim +R) and problem solved, no more coasters. Cheers for the advice, lesson learned - stick to brand media. That does however leave me with 92 unused "Bulkpaq" DVD+R that are utterly useless. I'm thinking eBay for 99p no reserve with a warning...

    Thanks everyone.

    @Phase_K - eBay is about the only good place for Bulkpaq, or in a wood burner :)

    @Phase_K - nice one, happy burning

    @d0z3r - again, nice one. The only other i personally recommend is Taiyo Yuden (TY)... BUT because they're generally regarded as THE best media, they're faked to buggery. However the other side of that coin is that they're talked about a lot, so the DVD-R media forum is full of threads on them, how to spot fakes, how to identy Genuine ones etc..

    I also have the same problem, heres my log. I usually use Sony DVD+R, but my cousin gave me Memorex DVD+R to burn dvds for him and this came up. I think it is the media like someone stated above.

    @Invasian - thought you were sorted out here - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/220301

    let's have a look at this log...

    - haven't read the other thread yet, but it looks like your firmware is out of date..OR the media is too new for your firmware to understand. The best your burner can tell is that the disc is a +R disc

    - splat!, problem with the media..

    - uninstall Nero, uninstall Nero completely via Nero Clean Tools - " http://www.nero.com/en/Clean_Tools.html " and reinstall Nero, WITHOUT installing Nero's InCD (packet writing software), doesn't always play well with standard Nero Burning Rom..

    I'm trying to burn on Verbatim DVD-R media with my Optorite DD0203 and getting the "Could not perform end of Disc-at-once" error at the end of the process. I've burned on this media fine with the same drive; this error only started popping up right after I did a reinstall of windows and upgraded to the new version of Nero. Any thoughts?

    @quest4kn -

    - wow, your burner's firmware is waaaay out of date, latest here is 2.50 - http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1605

    - DMA needs to be ON.fix it via this - http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/FAQ.htm

    - just for info, were you intending to do multisession discs ?

    - update the firmware, sort out the DMA settings, then try a 'simulation burn' which will ask for a blank disc and go thru the motions, but won't write to the disc. Hopefully the firmware and DMA settings will get you burning again..

    Seems to have removed the error after I updated the firmware, thanks! Although the IDE bus properties say DMA is on for everything, which is weird....think it might have to do with my cables? I think I only have 40-conductor ribbon cables connecting these guys.

    Might have accidentally had it set to multisession for that burn.

    Got the 80 conductor cables in my comp now, but one of the hard drives is still not coming up as DMA in nero, this one:

    It's connected via an Ultra ATA plug-in board and not the IDE bus. Any thoughts on how to turn DMA on for this guy, or if it's even needed?

    Thanks!
