I got tired of troubleshooting for days and I went out and bought a new DVD bruner. Got an LITEON lightscribe superallwrite which as a bonus gave me nero 7(the whole package) for $46 total. I uninstalled the nero 6 i had and installed the 7 and everything works fine, I was able to burn a DVD and it plays back on my home system. So I guess the issue was just a very old burner?
