    Hi All

I know this subject has been around for a while.....i've searched throughout the site, but still can't get my disks burning.

I've never had any problems before....I've used loads of different DVDs and they all worked fine. I now have a load of TDKs which refuse to burn and give me the above error. I've also tried burning with the DivX player and it simply ejects the disk claiming to have burnt successfully. (I'm trying to burn DivX files in both Nero and DivX player)

    I've tried updating the firmware....

I've also read threads about DMA and PIO mode, by going to the device manager. All the threads say to click on the advanced tab.....there isn't one! Although it does say that the secondary Channel Slave is in PIO mode......no idea whether that has anything to do with it, or how to change it.

Anyway, here is the Nero log and please help me if you can...it'll be greatly appreciated.....

    Hi deskjet80

The log shows 1.06 as the firmware - the latest is 1.0B.
Update to that one & see if it helps the TDK. Illegal disc usually means the firmware doesn't support the media.

If the firmware doesn't do the trick then looks like these TDK's aren't compatible w/ your drive. Try different media like Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim or made in Japan Sony, Fuji or Maxell.

    Keep us posted.

    Hi deskjet80,
Your pc is in pio mode change it back to dma mode by taking a look at this link http://my.afterdawn.com/alkohol/blog_entry.cfm/231/dmaissues
This is a compliment by our friend Alkohol.
For your info, nero 8 is not stable yet and might have seveal bugs that have not fixed yet therefore not advisable to use.
Can I know how old is your dvd burner.. becos dvd burner got their live span..I have got this problem before and I changed my dvd burner and got it fixed.
Hope with all these somehow help you solve your problems.

@ binkie7 Thanks for your help. I had tried updating the firmware, I restarted the PC, but it didn't work. So thank you for your link.....I've updated to 1.0B and now I'm burning away happily as before!!!

How did you know which one to update to?

@ henryting Thanks for the link to Alcohols guide, but guess what.....I am one of the <1% with Nvidia. I thought it might be because the burner was old.....about 4 years, but luckily it was just the firmware.

Thanks again to you two guys and to this website

And to anyone else in the same situation as i was in.....hopefully you can sort out the problem with the information on this page.

Glad that did the trick - versions usually go in a sequential order so in this case the last in the sequence was the 1.0B so that was the latest one.

    Happy Burning!
