Suddenly, after years of using TDK rewritable DVD's, my drive is no longer able to burn to them.

I just bought 5 new TDK x4 DVD+RW rewritables and I can use none of them. Also the drive gives same error with some Verbatim DVD-RW rewritables but not CD rewritables and not with DVD non-rewritables!

So the problem seems to be with rewritables only, but only certain ones.

Is it possible that my 8-month old drive is tired or something?

Here is the key part of the Nero error log (I have also used Imagetool and DVDSanta with the same problem, same DVD's):

    8:48:26 PM #17 Phase 98 File dlgbrnst.cpp, Line 1832
    Start formatting disc before burning

    8:48:26 PM #19 Phase 101 File dlgbrnst.cpp, Line 1832
    Formatting disc failed

I have read all the other threads on this forum regarding this error but none have addressed this particular problem.

My DMA is set to on.

    Should I buy another drive?

Is your firmware up to date...you don't mention what drive you are using.

Yes. Many burners that can no longer work with DVDs can still burn CDs.

Go into Device Manager, find your burner-> Right click-> Uninstall and reboot. Maybe that might help.
