    Big Question!!

I have a DVD-R DL (Double Layer) DVD burner.
problem is that i have not been able to Burn any DL disks. whatever program i use.. Nero full version(is what i have) won't read the disk as DL. Says no disk inserted.

here is what i know. that my drive is 100% DL and that the DVD's i am using are DVD-R DL's

as far as i know i have the latest updates for my drive.
    but it's still not working...

    any suggestions ????

    Hi kevman924
What dual layer media are you using? DVD-R DL hasn't been around as long as +R DL so all drives may not support it as well. All depends on the firmware.
What's the make and model of the burner?

Best bet would be to use Verbatim +R DL - more supported by the different drives.

    man, i apologize!!
    I'm using Memorex DVD+R DL
there isn't much info on my drive... i got it new from geeks.com(a good company)

    it's a CRL DVDRW 11081M ??
Nero is the only program so far that will even work with it. But I think it's a good drive. It burns CDr's and DVDr's great. I've never had a failure with a burn. just can't read DL.

i did do an extensive search for a firmware update and found one... but it still didn't correct the problem.. i can't find a lot of info on the drive..

after all this.. i think it's not a double layer drive,, that stinks.. i was ripped off. i'm going to call the company and see if they sent me the wrong one..
I get the feeling this is going to be a battle to get this resolved..

    Thanks for your help!

Yeah it's a dual format drive but not a dual layer one.
I don't think BTC is still making burners - they stopped support on their drives back in 2005.
Personally I would buy a new one - you can get a great drive like a LiteOn or Pioneer for around $40 (US).

Not a problem on the help.

I hate to butt in but I'm having problems with first time burning using DL disk. Disks are Memorex DVD+r DL burner is LG GSA-4163B. I just updated to most current firmware but still errors out in either Nero or DVD Decrypter

    Hi derryl
Start a new thread and post your last failed Nero log.
Your drives firmware last firmware update was from early 2006 so it might not support the manufacturer of these Memorex. Using Verbatim may be your best bet. But posy the log and we'll take a peek to see if anything else is up.

I purchase a nice new Pioneer DVR-1810 Double Layer drive.
The manual says that it writed to every format of Double Layer DVD's

yet... it won't even read them... what could be the isssue? i went to the pioneer web site and got the latest firm ware.. but it's not reading them at all.. do i have to change something in the settings?

When you added it did you make sure the jumper pin on the back of the drive was set to the placement on the ide cable? Like on the master connector - jumper pin set to master.
If this is a dell pc though they prefer being set to cable select.
