I have installed windows vista and Nero.Ultra.Edition.Enhanced.v7.8.5.0.

When I want to burn cds everything goes alright.
However when I want to burn dvds everytime it reaches only 1% and then shows PMA Update failure and could not perform Disc-at-once.
So,the burn is cancelled and the dvd is lost...
    I have an LG DVDR.

Also when I burn the dvd automatically when I create a movie with ConvertXtoDvd everything goes OK.

Does anyone know what it has to do with?
Is it a software or a hardware problem.

    Thanks a lot.

    Hi again angelosbg
Here's my post from the other thread:
It could be a hardware or software problem - hard to say w/o seeing a log. Since ConvertX can get the job done though it may be a Vista/Nero issue.
Try the same suggestion of doing it in 2 steps with Vision.
Convert and save the file to the hard drive instead of burning w/ Nero. Then burn the file w/ Burning Rom or Express.
If it fails post the log - just be sure to edit out the serial # - begins w/ 1A, 1C or 5C.

Let's keep it to this thread (hint forum rules too) since you're problem is a little different then the poster's in the other thread :)

That's ok about the XP showing up - you can tell you're running Vista by this in the log - Windows XP 6.0 .
If you were running XP you'd see this - Windows XP 5.1
    Just how Nero reports it.

One thing w/ Vista that Nero can't see if the drives are in DMA mode.
Check just to make sure - don't run Vista but should be about the same:
    guide

    Recorder: <HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4160B>Version: A300
Drive can use a firmware update too - the latest is A306

Check the DMA mode and update the firmware - see if that does the trick.
    Keep us posted too!

DMA mode is enabled in both ATA Chanel 0 and ATA Channel 1.
However, the link you sent me for the firmware update drives me to a chnese page where I cannot understand from where can I download it.
Sorry if I am being a dump but I cannot reach the answer

    Ok - but drats!
Let's try another burning program. ConvertX worked so if this one does then more and more looking like something with Vista and Nero on your setup.
Try ImgBurn - free & good.

Looks like this is already an image file so just use write mode. If not then use build mode to add and burn non image files.

edit to add: Not sure if Nero will also show the drivers that may conflict w/ Vista under existing drivers in the log.
Do you have any Roxio products installed? (dvd/multimedia software like Nero

Roxio products are products for cd and dvd burning?
Or also daemon tools which is for images and powerdvd are of this kind?Because I have them.
So now you suggest to install and try imgburn?Should I have first of all uninstalled nero or not?

And how can we find the drivers that conflict with vista?

Yeah Roxio is a cd/dvd burning software like Nero. The driver can conflict w/ Nero but sounds like you don't have it installed.

They other program you have listed are fine - not known to conflict w/ Nero.
Any driver that might conflict w/ Nero is listed under Existing drivers: in the log. You have none showing - good thing. Since the Nero log doesn't show everything like it does for XP - just wanted to check to rule out any other possibilities.

No need to uninstall Nero then install ImgBurn. ImgBurn is pretty problem free usually.
Having 2 programs burn and 1 not would more than likely be a Nero issue.
Doing a clean install of Nero but not be a idea either. Uninstall - run the clean tool - reboot and install again.

What do you mean with but not be a idea either?

You mean that I should uninstall nero and,run the clean tool, reboot and install it again. Some days before I unistalled nero but without the clean tool and nothing changed.

Just not my night :) Meant might instead of but - god knows why I transposed those words.

Running the clean tool just cleans out Nero entries and gives you a 'fresh' install. Can't hurt to give it a go.

I installed ImgBurn without uninstalling nero.As you said it wasn't a wrong idea.
This is ImgBurn's error report. It didn't even reach 1%.It remained in 0 and showed this error.

Ok - doesn't look like a Nero issue. ImgBurn is usually pretty problem free even using different os's and is giving you the same error as Nero.

Check the media now - the logs show it's manufactured TYG02 which is a great manufacturer. Check and see if your have the real deal - lot of fakes out there.
Around the hub on the back you should see these codes: GG00xxxx
    The x's represent #'s.
Try a different brand of media like Verbatim.

How can I check the media? The dvd labels or the drive?
    And what should I see?
Excuse me if I don't understand some things.
Also I have tried to burn a DVD-RW of another label and it didn't work either.
I am starting to believe that there is a problem with my drive and I should buy another...

Check the back of a blank disc - close to around the inner hub you should see GG00xxxx (x's are #'s). May need a magnifying glass:)

The media code in your log - TYG02 is great media but one of the ones faked a lot.

May just be the drive if you've used the same DVD-RW before on it w/ Vista and now a no go.

Try uninstalling the drive in device manager.
These are instructions for XP but I would think Vista is similar.
Right click on my computer. Pick properties>hardware tab>device manager.
Click on the + next to dvd/cd drives. Right click on the drive and pick uninstall. Reboot and let windows do it's thing and reinstall.

The code behind the dvd is GG007009.
I also uninstalled and installed the drive. Then I even used a maxell dvd but nothing had changed with Imgburn.
I don't think that I have another choice instead of buying a new drive...:(

Can you suggest me any dvd-rw label?

    Thanks a lot for everything!

    Dang :(

Well at least you got the real deal on the media - those are genuine Taiyo Yuden.

One last thing you can check - try this drive in another pc - preferable one w/ Vista installed if you can.

Good ones to look at would be LiteOn or Pioneer. If you're in the US check out newegg.com - great prices and service.

    angelosbg ,
Sounds like the drive is dying as the blank media is genuine. That drive is a little old .
