    I am trying to burn a Video CD in the bin/cue format. I have been burning hundreds of these with Nero 7.0.8.5 I believe. I tried to upgrade today to Nero 7.10 and it keeps failing at 4%. My DMA is on-ASPI(the Nero aspi32.dll) is in the Nero folder. The firmware on my Lite-On external burner is up to date-JSOD-I tried unistalling the drivers for the prmary and secondary IDE channels and even uninstalled and reinstalled the burner itself. I used the Nero clean tool and took out INcd and Nero 7 before installing the new version-nothing is helping. And what's weird is when I go to the Nero Info tool and look under configuration and doesn't say there are any devices present when I click on the primary or secondary IDE channels(?) What does that mean. But Nero recognizes they are there-it prompts me to choose a device to burn the CD when I first attempt to Burn the VCD. Can anyone help me here? Here is my log file:

    You need to decide which post you want to keep and PM a MOD to close the other. It's confusing if you have 2 threads going on same question.

    Sorry-I didn't mean to disregard forum etiquette it's just that I thought of posting my Infotool log after I submitted ny post with my Nero logfile. I didn't see a way to edit a post here like you can in some forums. At any rate does anyone have a troubleshooter or guide that you can use to isolate Nero 7 burning problems? I'm beginning to feel something is seriously corrupt in my operating system/hardware as I am getting "power calibration errors" in my logfiles as well. I tried rolling back to an earlier version of Nero(Nero 7.8.5.0) but am getting the same errors.

    @frankwb12

    You can edit you post by clicking on the little pad and pencil on top right of your posts. I don't use Nero 7, I prefer Nero 6.0.0.18. Is Nero the only program not working?

    I haven't noticed anything else going down. I'm beginning to think that my Lite-On burner is dying-i tried burning a DVD on my laptop and it failed there as well. Also I opened it up and cleaned it out with compressed air-no dice. Well I guess it's off to Best Buy-any suggestions for a reasonably good(and reasonably priced) external DVD burner? The Lite On lasted about 2 yrs

    Try newegg.com, they sell stuff cheap. I got my benq burners there, but the new benqs are not better than the Liteys. It certainly sounds like the drive sgoing south. Will your drive copy a DVD? Maybe it's just nero vision is not getting a compliant file to burn whether it's on lap top or desktop. Can you make a different VideoCD with a different file to check Nero Vision?

    some times ago, I use ImTOO DVD Creator, but ImToo was seriously lacking features and seemed quite slow ,I must admit I had stopped using ImToo and gone back to Nero.

    Now, just used the ImTOO DVD Creator new version its a huge improvement , far superior appearance, still very easy to use/navigate, seems to be improved speed of conversion, definatly uses far less dvd disc space than Nero, and it makes dvds excellent and they play on ALL of my 3 machines!!!!So far I am very happy with
    the new version and will move back to ImToo.
    you guys can try imtoo.

    Yes-I have to admit that Nero seems to be getting to be somewhat of a monster-It tries to be all things for everybody. What I really use Nero for is just a burning engine-I could care less about "photosnap" and "showtime" etc. Although it seems that this "power calibration error" can be caused by many things-bad media,IMAPI service,drain on power supply,dirt and dust and so on but in my case I am pretty sure my drive is going south. It won't burn anything-CD,DVD,VCD even on another machine. Apparently Nero is pretty picky when it does a calibration burn as It optimizes the burn rate for the entire burn with it-if it doesn't come back right in the calibration test-burn fail. Has anyone ever tried to refurbish their own drive just to see if it could be done? What do lasers go for these days anyway?

    At about $30-40 for a new drive, better to replace the drive, will be easier to update the firmware to accomodate newer media than to fight with a no longer supported model, unless you want the challenge of rebuilding it yourself. Keep me posted how to rebuild a drive and what the obstacles are.

    I believe you are right-the laser probably costs as much as a new unit. I'm going to try to find a DVD-RW refurbishing guide anyway for the fun of it. I took you advice Garmoon and bought a new Litey from Newegg.com-the LH-20A1HX LS R. It works perfectly-even though it says it needs a minimum Pentium 4 1.8ghz processor it works no problem on my antique Pentium 3. Ah-no more power calibration errors!It also says it burns DVD-RAM discs-can anyone tell me the pros and cons of DVD-RAMS?

    Great, let us know how that Litey performs. I'm not in the market but If I were I don't have any idea what to buy. I know the Liteys have been good. Glad you got it sorted. Welcome to AD. Lots to learn here.
