hi, i reciently just bought a dvd burner and it came with Nero 7. my problem is that i can only burn with that program, no other programs work with the DVD burner... does anyone know how to let other programs work?

oh and im trying to burn several videos but nero startsmart essentials only has "make video CD" and i click that and even though i can burn it to a dvd the program only lets me put the 700mb or so on the DVD. also any other way to burn 19 video files totaling at 3.19gb using Nero? thanks

    Hi.

There's all sorts of free software available for backing up DVDs. The guides linked below have links to the software included:

    I'd recommend Ripit4me if you're a newbie.

AnyDVD (not free) is a useful program for backing up DVDs when used with DVD Shrink (free) and ImgBurn (free):

If you have authoring software, ImgBurn and DVD Decrypter are both free burning programs.

I'm not sure what you mean by other programs not working. Can you be more specific in listing the programs and what you did.

I imagine you're actually using NeroVision Express to convert AVIs to be DVD compliant. (SmartStart is a wizard). The OEM version is crippled in that regard. You can either download the trial version of the full version of Nero 7 and see if you like that or download ConvertXtoDVD and try it out. ConvertXtoDVD is a better AVI converter in my opinion. Although for the cost of Nero or ConvertX, one can buy a DVD player that plays divx/avi files.

if these 19 files are AVI files then it would be much more than a blank DVD5 can hold because AVIs are a smaller foot print than DVD compliant files..... when you convert a 700MB AVI file will fill up half a DVD5 sooooooo that's a lot of AVIs you have trying to fit them all on one DVD5!

thanks for the replies but this doensnt solve my problem, umm the dvd burner works fine, i was able to burn a 700mb movie and it works but it seems like Nero "owns" the dvd burner, i also have alcohol 120%, roxio and dvd decrypter on my computer and they all cant burn a dvd, only nero can and i dont like nero that much, im more familiar with the other programs... so what im asking is is there to fix my problem, all i can think of is uninstalling nero. thanks again

I have never ever heard of Nero hijacking a burner and not let it use other burning software! That's ridiculous. It could be that Nero and Roxio is conflicting..... which is the usual case. But it's only the drivers that sometimes conflict with one another and that's only on some computers. My computer has both programs and work just fine...... I also have many other programs that work just fine, too:

so there has to be something that is stopping you from burning with other programs.... try uninstalling Roxio and try it again.
