Are you using the oem suite or the real version?

I was reffering to your copy of nero. The reason I ask is because if you have the oem suite there is a good chance you don't have the burning rom needed to back this up.

Well it will say on the disc itself. If you are using a version of nero that came with your burner, chances are you have the oem suite. If you have the full version then when you install it you will need to input the serial # in order for it to work.

    Does this help?

I am also having a similar problem. I got the DigitalMax burner (I guess it's like Lite-On or soemthing like that) from OfficeMax. I burned two or three DVD's fine, but now I can't get them to burn for anything because of that illegal disc error. I updated the firmware on the drive and updated my version of Nero 6. I have also tried both Maxell and Memorex blank DVD-R's, and neither have worked. After I updated the firmware, it burned alright once and has since made 2 coasters. I really hope someone can help me before I have a coaster for every cup I own.

The discs you are using may be the problem. Post your nero log.

Have you tried to update the firmware on your burner? It looks like the burner doesn't recognize your media. Or just try different media.

I have both updated the firmware on the drive and changed from some 4x Maxell DVD-R to 8x Maxell DVD-R and now am trying 8x Memorex DVD-R. The 4x Maxell's worked originally just fine, but since have made about 8 coasters.

get a program called DVD Identifier and find out what the media ID code is on those discs. The problem with store-bought media is that you really don't know who made the disc. They may say Memorex but in a 25-pack there's probably a handful of different manufacturers, none of them actually being Memorex. And just so you know, Memorex isn't considered quality media. In fact, quite the opposite.

I am having the same problems with illegal media. Sometimes it works often it does not. I have a lot of coasters. I am running win 2000 so the service pack with xp issues does not help. I have found many references to this problem on Google, but so far can't find an answer. Why doesn't nero admit to at least having a problem?

@bltassoc: Have you tried to update the firmware on your burner? I'd try that before blaming software.

I had the same problem except my sony would not burn DVD-R Nero tech support told me it was a drive from another burning program that was causing the problem. go to nero.com and download the cleantool.zip run the driver-clean tool frist and allow it to disable the drivers that are causing the confict then run the registry checker. This runs very quickly and it may appear nothing has happened reboot the computer and try burning again. It fixed my problem hopefully it works for you
