Yes, I have had XP, 2000, 98, and Linux PCs all on the same network.

Make sure they both belong to the same Workgroup and that both are in the same network range of IPs - like make one 192.168.0.1 and the other 192.168.0.2 if you aren't using a DHCP server. Also make sure that the user account is the same name and password on both PCs local workgroup accounts. I found that worked best for me.

I currently have two xp computers linked and is used for file sharing and internet as well. Well I just wanted to hook up one of the XP comps to 2000. And it was pretty easy for xp to xp, but xp to 2000... I might need some help...You have suggested getting similar Ips but doesn't it change everytime? Also how would I do it?
    Thanx for your help.

If you have them both set to obtain an address automatically they should be in the same network range.
