i recently purchased a used dell inspiron 300m for about $15 but everytime i start it up it has a blue screen and says STOP: c0000218 {Registry File Failure} The registry cannot load the hive (file): \SystemRoot\System32\Config\SOFTWARE or its log or alternate. It is corrupt, absent, or not writable. Beginning dump of physical memory Physical memory dump complete. Contact your system administrator or technical support group for further assistance. CAn someone please help me with directions on how i can fix this problem
A quick search in google takes me to M$ web site -> http://support.microsoft.com/kb/830084 Do you have a genuine windows XP disk? if so try booting to a recovery console and use the chkdsk /f command and see if that helps at all With the Computer being second hand I personally would be tempted to format the hard drive and start afresh with XP
