    ATI Radeon 9700 PRO 128MB
    OR

Im geussing the ATI Pro because it is the higher model but the 9600XT has 256MB so which is better?

Intel is the only ones making processors with speeds above 3.0 but AMD 64's will outperform them with slower clock speeds.Do some reasearch and check out some of the top rated computers.

if you are looking at getting new cpu make certain your board can handle it or you will have to get a new board too & maybe a new powersupply

I have the 9700 Pro and it's by far the greatest card I've ever owned (owned all Geforces before it) but it is getting dated. I believe this card is what... 2... 3 years old?

It stills runs all my games fine. HL2, Doom 3, etc... It just doesn't run them on the greatest settings in the world.

Honestly, the last time I looked the 9700 Pro was actually more expensive than the 9800 Pro.

The processor I'd grab before they sell out are the Athlon Mobile chips. If you go with an Athlon 64 you'd basically be building a new rig completely. You'd need another motherboard, and probably a bigger PSU. Also you could grab a sempron but I've been reading mixed reviews on those.

the thing is, im looking at purchasing a Intel Pentium 4 3.4GHz Processor and i dont know if it will be compatible with the motherboard i have in right now. how can i tell if it is in fact compatible? also the motherboard would have to support the ATI radeon 9700 Pro and at least have a RAM capacity of 2GB. Any suggestions on which motherboard would be perfect for all the requirements i listed?
