Newbie...wanna start from square 1.

    1. What decent burner to buy for cheap, how much can I expect to spend?
    2. What software can I use and I want tow watch my rips on my portable dvd burner as well?

    I'm not quite sure what you mean by watching the rips on a portable DVD burner....If you are talking about a DVD recorder, the kind that hooks up to your TV, then you can't watch "rips". A rip consists of video files copied from a DVD and placed on your computers HDD. The only thing that will let you watch these files is your PC's media player.

    For copying DVDs, I recommend DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter.
