It's a sad day...Plextor consumer drives are no more. It's all there in the title. Link is here: http://www.cdfreaks.com/news/No-more-Plextor-consumer-drives---parent-company-pulls-plug.html There goes making backups of PC games without having to use emulation =( (Plextor Premium baby !!! )
This sucks because Plextor drives kick butt. I might have to pick up one ahead of schedule for my C2D setup I am planning for mid '07. If I can't pick one up I will probably go with a Lite-On. Some people love Lite-Ons, others hate 'em. In my opinion they are up there (although not quite as good) with Plextor and will be #1 once all the Plextor drives are sold out.
lol - I'm one of the one's that love Litey's. Kept saying I'd get a Plextor I guess now I'll have too before they're extinct.
this is really bad. i'm such big fan of plextor. got 3 px-716 and 2 px-712 and 1 px-760. i guess its time to stock them up. i will highly recommeded the px-716.
Update: The latest on cdfreaks.com is the following: "An official confirmed statement from Shinano Kenshi Co., Ltd., the parent company of Plextor, announced today" "Although Plextor's optical drive operations will be reduced, our business itself will still continue," says Motoaki Kaneko, the president of Shinano Kenshi. "We do have a plan to release consumer drives while our engineering team will be engaged more in the development for business use equipment." So I guess this is good news after all... the full article is here: http://www.cdfreaks.com/news/Plexto...roducts-and-retail-sales-still-continues.html
Yep, heard about this, pretty gay lol. I'll stick to my LG, till it breaks, then buy a Pioneer ;-) Down with Lite-On; haha only joking Karen. XD
You better be jokin there ripper aabbccdd posted in the Taiyo Yuden thread this blurb from Plextor: This isn't correct, Plextor will still sell to consumer market in our brand name. Meaning they will have their name but probably not made by them. edit: spelling
