I am following along with your guide to convert AVI to DVDR. Everything is fine except most of the avi's I have come up as not supported when I open them in TMPG. These are mainly divx or xvid avi's. Any suggestions.

Thank you Jim Dandy. I got it to come up after the first suggestion in the list. Now my encoding is done, and it came out as a .mpg not an m2v, any suggestions on why, and how I messed it up.

Ok, it squeezed the video, and did not copy audio, any help would be greatly appreciated.

ok not knowing what guide your using im at a loss.
TMPGEnc is a mpeg encoder, which explains why you have an mpeg. You can use the mpeg, to make vob files that can be burned, in the burner program of you choice.
To make vob files out of mpegs you need a authoring program like TMPGEnc dvd author or dvd lab etc, check out this guide:http://www.dvd-guides.com/guides.php?category=dvdauthor&name=tmpegencdvdauthor
trial download available on the guide
    good luck
    jim

ok,so your mpeg has no sound?
You need to give out more info,so somebody else can help you if i cant.Sounds to me like you may be missing some codecs.Try using the search function and search codecs.

Ok, sorry. I used TMPGenc to encode my divx file, it converted to a .mpg with no audio and it squeezed the picture.
