Okay, since two-three months ago I haven't been able to burn anything (to DVD). I have a SONY DVD RW DW Q28A (2 years old). Every time I try to burn a DVD it gives me, randomly, one of the following errors: "invalid block address", "power calibration error", "drive not ready", "session fixation error".

There's 1-2 minutes of writing lead-in and then the error, and then the CD is ejected.

What else? I've tried everything that has been suggested in other threads addressing similar errors: slower speeds, different burners, different types of DVDs from different manufacturers etc, different burning programs (multiple versions of Nero, burn4free, img burn), I've checked that I have the latest firmware, I've checked that I have DMA enabled, I've tried burning from different harddrives, tried different files, with multisession, without multisession, cleaning the lens, I checked the cables etc etc etc etc etc.

Nothing worked. The same errors and even more randomly, once every 20-25 it does burn a DVD or two. That's even more frustrating, as I've wrecked dozens of DVDs so far. What is even more annoying is that burning CDs works just fine, so the drive is obviously not obsolete.

Oh, one more thing, if it counts: the drive is set to slave.

Here is the log of my most recent burn try. I think this time it was the "invalid block address" error.

I'm absolutely sick of this. What can I do? Thanks in advance!

    Ok a few things:

    1. If that Sony Drive is your only optical drive then why set it to Slave? It should a be a Master, as you have no other drive mounted..

    2. Do you always use Sony media or have you tried any others?

    3. I noticed your trying to burn Multsession DVD's? Any particular reason? If not turn that off, could cause compatibility issues.

    4. Nero Errors -1114 and -1064 don't seem to be common at all. This could suggest it's hardware problem with your drive. It is getting a tad old, and since your Q28A is a rebadged Lite-On you could try flashing your drive's firmware to make it a DRU-800A (KY05) or a SOHW-1693S (KS0A).

    5. Finally think back, did you make any significant hardware/software changes 2-3 months ago? Anything that could affect your DVD drive?

    Hope this helps..

Thanks; anyhow, these are the same answers as always.

    1. I don't know, it never worked on Master.

    2. As stated, I have also tried multiple other types of media.

    3. As stated, I've tried both multisession on and off, same thing.

    4. This might be a solution, flashing. How do I do this? I have KYS4 right now. How will it help?

    5. No, no changes.

"Power on, reset or bus device reset occurred"

Check the power supply to the burner. It is possible the recorder lost power during the burn. If you have faulty power supply, you can get that error. Unplug the burner and plug it to a diferent supply. If it shares whith another device, set it by itself.
Or, migh be time to spend $25-$30 and get a new burner...

Thank you for this suggestion, I tried it just now, to no effect. Same errors.

Back to the old question then - how do I flash the drive's firmware to make it a DRU-800A (KY05) or a SOHW-1693S (KS0A)?
