I've been attempting to create a DVD from some DV video captured in DV1 format. I captured two tapes into two AVI files, approx 1 hour each. (13GB for one, 11GB for the other.) I used the editor to combine them into a single video. I lowered the quality to Long Play in order to fit onto one DVD, which made the project 3GB. I added 13 chapters, designed a menu, and chose burn. The problem appears to happen during the transcode phase, before the actual burn. I will include the error portion of 3 different log files from 3 attempts, at the end of this post.

I also tried capturing the DV in MPEG2 format. But, NVE wouldn't reduce the project size when I lowered the quality to Long Play. I had to lower it to the poorest quality (super extended long play?). I was able to burn the project that way. But, it looks like crap, then.

Hopefully, some of the many folks that have suffered similar problems might be able to share a workaround with me. Or, maybe Mr. Campbell has some advice.

Craig, are you still on line?
I got very brave and included 6 DVD slideshows of 99 jpg's each, 5 simple transitions and mp3 sound in nve30114 and got the following error message. Error 128 again!

I had successfully encoded 5 slideshows of the same material previously. Have I exceeded the max permissable size?

I did finally get my project to transcode and burn. I had made 2 changes to my system, so I cannot say which one was the solution.
1-I upgraded my hardware from AMD 2000XP CPU with Via KT400 chipset and 512M RAM to Intel P4 3GHz with Intel 848 chipset and 512M RAM.
2-I uninstalled DivX Pro software, as per Craig's (Nero Tech) suggestion.

My gut feeling is it was the DivX uninstall that did it. If the other folks with these errors also have DivX installed, I suggest uninstalling, and see if that works.

THANK YOU THANK YOU - I'll give that a shot - I'll try the divx first 'cause I'm so not a computer person and your first suggestion could have been - "blablabla" and would mean the same thing to me lol!

    I hope this works thanks!

    Carlie

Edit - ok well option 2 is a no go - I can't seem to find divx on the comp - I don't think we have it. Does anyone have any other ideas? Like I said I'm not a computer person and have actually never burned a dvd - my sister usually does that stuff - but is this problem because of the format of the video? If If I import the videos into windows media player and save them in that so that it's a different format do you think that will help? I don't want to do it if it's not going to help 'cause it would be a lot of work. Thanks

Is the current format AVI? My project was using large AVI files. Many people who complain fo this error seem to be using large AVI files.

You can try converting them to a different format. It might work. I don't know if Media Player does that. I believe Movie Maker might be able to do that. I don't know if it can save as MPEG, but I know it can save as WMV. But, does Nero work with WMV? I don't remember.

it worked with an other video we made with windows movie maker. I think they are mpeg files. They are really big though. I'm trying to change them right now but it's not going to be done it time - it's taking way to long to change them

Any thoughts appreciated. I have been trying to burn a slideshow to DVD on various formats but have been receiving burnfailure or lockup. I "burned" the file to a C: directory to ensure the problem was not with the DVD burner with similar results. Attached please find examples from two burn logs:

You do not give details of h/ware or s/ware.
    Operating system?
    RAM?
    HDD space available?
    Other encoders?
    Version of NVE? and Nero?
I have just encoded 550 JPG files to 6 slideshows in one DVD Sliideshow. This included MP3 music and 5 or 6 transitions. In addition i checked the box to include the JPG files on the disk. In NVE 3.0.1.14 I used the defaults for every choice.

My bad. All latest version that came with OEM Memorex DVD+/-DLRWL1 F16 burner (Nero 6 and NVE 3.0.1.14). XP, RAM 512, free HDD space 16GB, no other encoders installed.
I attempted to burn 15 chapters (99 pics + song)(about 3MB) but received errors at various ramdom points during the burning process. On an unrelated project that was 5 chapters, I was successful (less than 1MB).
I really NVE ease of use, but wonder if I should consider other software if it can't burn large projects.

Run Task Manager and check memory usage. I have set maximum swapfile to 4 GB. Encoding uses 1+ GB. I burn to "Image Recorder" with "Burn at Once" unchecked.
Some users have reported that using some of the 3-D transitions has caused lockup of NVE.
You might check to make sure that you have the latest drivers for your video card. (I have a modest OEM version of the ATI Radeon 9200).
Keep trying, I have not yet used animations in my menus.

Out of curiosity, what file system do you have on the drive where your temp folder resides(usually c:). In case you feel like conducting a small experiment, try to burn a DVD with image writer and make sure that the project size is LESS than 4096MB(3800MB or so) and see what happens, NVE and most other DVD authoring progs failed to create a DVD that was 4GB+ because my temp folder was on a FAT32 partition, when I changed that to a NTFS volume in system properties the problem went away...

All of my disks are NTFS. My drive E: is a 120 MB WD JB with 60+ GB free as a rule. I have no issue at all as to image size being inconsistent with expectations. This is largely due to using 2 passes during encoding (always).
I always burn to HDD as an IMAGE but I do not have Burnat Once checked. I have found some problems with MP3Pro audio files and use LAME encoded CBR MP3 audio for backing.
