I've been following Afterdawn's "AVI to DVD" guide for a couple of months now with no problem, but recently I decided to try Nero Vision Express and am very happy with the way it works.

My question is why is NVE so much faster than Tmpgenc. Is there a sacrifice in quality I'm not noticing? I'm transcoding pretty much using the same bitrate and from what I can tell, playback looks identical.

In all honesty, I'm under the belief that because NVE is much faster, that in can't be as good.

    Anyone?

NVE uses a completely different mpeg encoder engine.
It is easily twice as fast, but so are many others.
Tmpgenc is the most marketed encoder, not the fastest, nor the best.
