I have an older version of the ps2. Like, I got the ps2 the midnight it came out in stores. And I'm not sure If this question has been answered or if I am or if I am not posting this in the right section.

anyways though, my ps2 won't load certain discs. It only loads my DVD based games. [I just figured that out, brother old me]. If I get a game that has a purple back, the compact discs? Yeah, my ps2 won't read it.

Do I need to buy something? Fix something? or what...

[and I'm also sorry if this has been answered before, I tried searching but it didn't load :p]

It sounds to me that the part of the laser which read cds is burnt out. If you want to play cds then this needs replacing. There are only about 30 games on cd and all the new ones are on dvd.

Yeah the ps2 has a much harder time reading cd based games than dvd based. You could try cleanin your laser with a q-tip and rubbing alcohol.
