Online gaming with patched backups-the pros and cons?????????????

Discussion in 'PS2' started by brad1102, Apr 30, 2004.

I'm considering making the move to online gaming.

I've been a member of this forum for a year now, dispensing as much information as I've been able to - to anyone that has needed it - and am now asking for all other members to stand up and make some real opinions regarding online play,

Is online gaming feasable at this time using patched backup games?

Is patching a straightforward, no BS process with an origional as a source?

Is this move worth the investment?

Please only reply if you are Member status or higher.

Thanks for the expert opinions in advance.

    Cheers!

Pros: making a patched backup is simple. It can literally be patched in 5 seconds. It's a lot of fun playing online with friends. Co-op is getting better in games (supposed to be awsome in Syphon Filter:OS). No fees (unless specified ex. FFXI or EverQuest) unlike Xbox.

Cons: Not always a lot of other people on depending on the game and time.

There are more things I'm proably not thinking of right now, but in my opinion it's worth it, you're missing out on a big chunk of your games (online enabled that is).

Would it be risky using two copies at the same time?

So it's possible to have two online at the same time without getting banned? I wanted to make my cousin SF:Omega strain and Socom 2

If you want to copy one game like one for you and one for your cousin from the same disc it wont work or give someone your origanl and play your backup aswell

I don't want to start an arguement both of you could be right, I just wanted to know if anyone has tried going online with the same ID and would they get automatically banned or would they get an error like when you patched the wrong code? and they would bann the ps2 from going online correct not the network adapter? because I could try fixing my old ps2 laser and try that to get online

I agree with you on just being on the safe side, but he didn't want a opinion on what he should do, he wanted to know from someone who has tried. To end all this paranoia I have made two and played them on online at the same time and they both get on and no ban. Believe what you want and do what you will, I'm only giving you the facts and not my opinion.

Since Ender tried it and he/she hasn't been banned yet and both got online it should work, I think those who got banned are the ones who listed there ID on the forums, or those that makes a backup copy for their who neighborhood. I'm going to probably fix my old ps2 then try to get it online. thanks for all your help.

So your using the one that has been listed on the forums? I guess your lucky, does anyone know if replacing the ps2 lens is hard? is there any soldering required? Once I get my ps2 laser fix I will try to go one with a backup version and try it. But I don't want to risk using my new ps2 with ffXI on it with my week's of playing ^_^
