I've been trying to play Phantasy Star Online ep 1 and 2 through a private server but it seems it won't connect. I am not sure if it is the broadband adapters problem or the server's problem. I was wondering if there is any way to check if my broadband adapter works. (like is there anyway to ping it or something.?

Try things in "Full Guide to Gamecube Backup/Booting" thread. There u can see does it work by sending some .dol.
And are u sure ur connecting to Gamecube PSO server? There's servers to Dreamcast and PC too...
And make sure the cables are right.
