If someone can help me with this Physics Question. A rescue plane drops a package of emergency rations to a stranded party of explorers. The plane is traveling Horizontally at 100 m/s at a height of 50m above ground. What horizontal distance does the package travel before striking the Ground? Please HELP FAST!!!!
double check this; i've been awake way too long to think about what i type. acceleration due to gravity: 9.8 m/s^2 integral of acceleration is velocity: v = 9.8x m/s integral of velocity is distanct: d = 4.9x^2 m 50 = 4.9x^2 x^2 = 10.2 x= 3.2 seconds (100 m/s)(3.2s) = 320 meters traveled horizontally
i'm a physics and math major, with possible minors in astronomy and german. i should know all this crap. ^.~
Hey Auslander i have 2 more problems, and wondering if u can help. 1.Find the velocity( magnitude and direction) of the package in the Previous Problem. 2.During a thunderstorm, a tornado lifts a car to height of 125m above the ground. Increasing in strength, the tornado flings the car horizontally with an initial speed of 90 m/s. How long does the car take to reach the ground? How far horizontally does the car travel before hitting the ground? Appreciate ur help Auslander. Its just that my Stupid teacher doesnt teach anything and just assighns homewor, im doing 1-50 on that page and i dont understand these 3 problems. Well anyway PLS and Thank You.
1.) this is a vector problem. as with everything else i do, have someone double-check them. v= (9.8)(3.2) = 31.36 m/s vy = -31.36 m/s, vx = 100 m/s so, think geometry. x^2 + y^2 = c^2 sqrt((100^2)+(31.36^2)) = 104 m/s so there's your magnitude, now to find the angle. tan is opposite over adjacent legs, so tan(-31.36/100) = -17.4 degrees. so the vector would be 104 m/s at 17.4 deg below the horizontal 2.) use our prevously gained knowledge 125 = 4.9x^2 25.5 = x^2 x = 5.1 seconds d = (90 m/s)(5.1) = 459 m travelled horizontally. i hope you can forgive my intermittent use of units. when doing calculations, despite laziness, it's always best to include all units everywhere, if anything to catch yourself in mistakes. typing them out however, for me, is rather time-consuming and i'm studying for my physics exam friday
hahaha, yeah, on a tech forum, i suppose that wouldn't be too unreasonable, would it? it would happen eventually, if people kept the handful of homework threads alive. i remember back in the high school days, i had a thread to help me come up with topics for essays. there have been a half dozen or more threads asking for homework help, too. maybe we should re-title this the "Math and Science Homework Thread" and keep posting. it would be stickied if used commonly for some time. oh well, back to singing MSI and some half-ass studying. ^.~
Well, I've seen people ask for dating advice here, so a h/w thread wouldn't be too unreasonable... btw, it was you who was asking for dating advice, wasn't it? *goes to look for thread*
FOUND IT! http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/569937 You know that a tech forum becomes more of a community when people start asking questions completely off topic, like date ideas or physics h/w help ;-)
hopefully it will turn into a dating advice thread, as well, though. seems there was a member who was going to ask questions and never did. XD
Yeah... the thread is nicely named "Help Me Not Screw Up"; pretty much everyone who sees it reads it (lol). Anyway, back to Socials h/w.
i do my best to keep various threads alive. too bad the survival thread died. :-( the car thread is almost there, as is the gun thread. <voiceofgod> bring me more mathicals, that i may do others' homework and not mine own! </voiceofgod>
...which is why you're an addict ;-) Yeah, there's something satisfying by doing other's h/w rather than your own... (I get e-mails for h/w help XD )
