Using the SwapMagic 2.0 DVD the console crashes when I hit the X button, leaving the "insert disc" screen still visible but with a PINK BORDER around it. Anybody seen this before?

Yes, this means that you have a bad burn. What type of media are you using and what is your process for burning games. The more information you provide, the better we will be able to help you. Check out my signature for an example.

Hi thanks for the prompt reply.
The pink border comes up with originals too. The only time I simply obtain a blank screen is when I leave the SwapMagic DVD inside.
Also I have DVD film backups that do not require the SwapMagic Kit.

Try adjusting your ps2 lasrer lens, i was having same problem with my ritek and Swampmagic DVD 2.0 until i raised it higher, so the little hole on the white disk is pointin up, now my games boot. And it wasn't hard at all.
