When I burn a dvd movie with recordnow the drive spins up and stops about six times before it burns. Some times the disc plays ok but most of the time it skips at the begining and locks up, or the xbox/panasonic player doesnt play it at all. So a freind brought his 106 round and that burnt a movie i had ripped fine (played on everything). I thought it could be the hacked firmware i was using so i forced it to the latest official firmware and tried burning the same movie and it was speeding up and stoping again and the disc was not recognized in anything even the 105, i also tried burning some avi files to a disc and that wasn't recognized so it doesn't seem to work at all now.

So do you think i should just scrap the drive or could the problem be solved?

It is having trouble locking onto the inserted media.

Have you tried any other media to see if it is common throughout?

Must admit, it does sound as though the burner is unwell.

Maybe down to bad firmware info during the flash, or just that the diodes within the laser assembly have become weak.......

Either way it is probably 'past tense'............

Can you take your burner to your friends PC and try it there?
This will prove it is definately drive related and not an external influence.

However, may experience tells me it is 'goosed'......Sorry...........
