Sorry, still 17 mins remaining on the burn. (It's an RW @ 1X)

What I'm going to get you to check is your DMA settings. If you know how to check, good. If not, hang on.

on my secondary IDE channel (where the dvd/dvd-rw is installed) both transfer modes are set to "DMA if Available" on both devices (0 & 1).

OK, right click on "My Computer."
Select Properties, Hardware, then Device Manager.
Click the plus sign on "IDE ATA/ATAPI Contollers"
Right click on "Secondary IDE Channel" and then properties, then advanced.

For device 0 and 1, what are the "Transfer mode"'s set to?

OK, now Keeping in mind that master is "0" and slave is "1", change the one for the DVD burner to "PIO Only."

    I think you'll have to re-boot.

Follow the guides on Oriphus' signature, and you'll do fine.

    Glad we got it working.

Oh, and you now owe me a beer. :)

Congrats! its a PAIN when the expensive toys dont work =)
Im just wonderring about that PIO mode, cant that affect burning at higher speeds? If i dont remember wrong i have seen threads where people had problems burning at 4* and were adviced to change to ultra DMA instead of PIO?
