Whats the difference between the Pioneer 106 Bulk and the Pioneer AO6 Retail?

Are they the same but the 106 just doesn't come with software and cables?

Although they are the same drive Firmware upgrades have proved a little tricky for some people with the 106.

Not sure why - they are exactly the same drive off the same production line - they are just serialled differently for different boxes.

Originally the plan was that Joe Public would purchase the boxed retail version with the nice cables and 'orrible software and that manufacturers who wanted to 'bundle' the DVD drive with their PC's would get the low cost no frills version.

Ahhhh thank god for somebody at Pioneer seeing the light :)
