I was hoping to get the new Dual-Layer DVD+R burners soon but I was wondering if my old DVD reader from Pioneer can even read the Dual Layer DVD+Rs? After all Pioneer is a huge supporter of DVD-R and this drive is a couple of years old.

This drive is a 16X speed DVD reader. However, there's no other spec info I can find on the Pioneer site or anywhere else.

If anyone can give me a rough idea of what it is compatible with with burned media, that would be greatly appreciated.

My main purpose of burning is to archive and backup data (anime, music, documents) so compatibility with standalone players is not that big of an issue.

DL discs are not available yet so compatibility with various ROMs is something that remains to be seen. For the price of a few D/L discs though you can buy a new ROM when it becomes evident which ones will actually work.
