Try using DVD Decrypter, its either the copy protection or the disc is dirty/scratched, Stratches for me are easier to handle but dirty disc give me hell!

If DVD Decrypter gives you the same problem, try it in brute force with ignore read errors. Probably copy protection if its a recent film.

Would DVD decrypter shrink it though? because (so far) the problem is the compression...it's too low. I want it at least like 85-90...so yeah.

pirates of the caribean is quite a large dual layer movie if you try to include all the extras and crap. You will have to rip movie only with 1 audio stream and 1 subtitle to get the sort of compression you are chasing. I think when i backed it up i achievd around 90 something % and it looked fine

ah, Pirates of the Caribbean...i remember that movie. i was able to get it with Shrink a few versions ago, but if you can't, then go at it with Decrypter. then use Shrink on the files Decrypter creates. for a decent amount of compression, you're going to have to Reauthor it, and use the scene options to take out the credits and the rolling intro. i think, after all was said and done, i had about 90% compression. good luck to you.

Alrighty, I decrypted it using decryptor, now how exactly do i make DVD Shrink shrink all of those files? Would i just open the file Decryptor made and tell it to backup that file? And initially, i did re-author it, and just dragged "main-movie" over, and unchecked all the french and other english stuff that i didn't need, so i was just left with ONLY english, and i still got it to 76.6%...and i'm not entirely sure how i can take away the credits and whatnot. Thanks!

when you have Shrink open and the video set up to reauthor, you'll see a tool bar that says "DVD Compilation," and it will have an up-facing arrow, a down-facing arrow, an X, and two horizontal arrows, one over the other, facing opposite directions. you click on that icon, and it let's you set your beginning and ending scenes.

once you have taken out all the stuff you don't want where it says compression it will say [atomatic] click the arrow and set it to [custom ratio] and slide the bar ever so slow towards the 100% mark
after removing all that audio you have a little room to work with I'll bet you can get at least 80% if not higher

Hmm, i think i got it to around 84...i just took off the ending scenes, and some of the beginning to right where it says thet title...that's about it.
