PLAY BACKUPS WITHOUT CHIP OR MAGIC

I dont use a modchip or swapmagic to play backups. What I do is take my ps2 apart and play it without a disk tray. I load up my gameshark, press eject, then quickly hold down the tray sensor with my finger. Then I put in my backup and hit start. Simple as that.

...So you still use a boot disc though? And you play with your cae apart?

If that works its really going to f**k up your ps2.

I would change the way you play backups.

I don't see why, using swap magic is so easy, and you could get a flip top and swap magic combo for $35-$40 these days if not cheaper.
You will most likely mess something up.

Well I think it is better than swap magic. You can play any backup including ps1 backups which I dont think are supported by magic. So Im gonna stick with my method. I have also been tryin to load up a gameshark with codes on, then swap it out with my hdadvance disc and try to play a game on my hdd. But I keep getting an error about the hard drive not being inserted.
